Moving Questions - Size of the Moving Trucks

Question to Movex

from Linda B in AZ - Sunday, July 18, 2010
You mention your minimum space is 6 feet. Is that 6 feet square? How do you measure the 6 feet?

Movex Response

Linda,

All of the trucks are 8ft wide and 9ft high inside. When we refer to a 6ft shipment, we mean a solace that is 6ft long by 8ft wide by 9ft high.

Hope this helps clarify!

Question to Movex

from B N in FL - Monday, April 05, 2010
What size are your trailers. My complex does not allow moving trailers over 40' into the complex. Thanks.

Movex Response

B.

The trailers are between 48 and 53ft long. So we would not be allowed into your complex. Remember, this is the standard size for ALL moving vans. So any company using standard moving vans is going to have a challenge. To use us, we would need to have the truck parked at a safe location and you would need to bring your furniture to it.

Question to Movex

from k M in CA - Sunday, March 21, 2010
14 linear feet is how many cubic feet

Movex Response

Cubic feet are calculated by multiplying the width of the truck by the height of the truck. Movex provides trucks that are 8ft wide and 9ft tall. So each linear foot is equal to 72cubic ft. So, 14ft x 72cuft. equals 1008 cubic feet.

We have a 4+ BR home the last time we moved we filled a 50 foot United Trailer. Can you leave that big of a trailer in a residential address for long enough for us to load and what about traffic? Thanks Jack

Movex Response

Jack,

Yes, we can bring a tractor trailer to your home. We would arrive first thing in the morning and give you all day to load (extra days are available at a minimal cost). We would set up traffic cones for traffic safety.

Question to Movex

from Natalie M in IL - Friday, February 26, 2010
Hello, I live in a highrise apartment in downtown Chicago. I am assuming there are regulations on the size of truck that can enter the city. In which case, what size trucks do you send? Can you send smaller trucks (non-semis) for your city-dwelling customers to load? Thanks.

Movex Response

Natalie,

Downtown Chicago highrise apartments are a no-go for us. The trucks are 53' long and cannot maneuver in the streets of downtown Chicago. You would need to shuttle the shipment out to a location on the edge of the city to our road tractor. Depending on where you are moving, this may or may not be the best option for you.

Question to Movex

from Jesse M in TX - Sunday, November 29, 2009
My wife is currently living in an appartment complex. Are there any size constraints for the truck. If so what are some options if the truck doesn't fit right next to the apartment/house?

Movex Response

Jesse,

Great question. Yes, the trucks are big moving-vans that are approximately 50ft long. You should check with your apartment managers as to where they want to park moving vans for you to load. If we cannot have the truck parked close to your home, you may need to shuttle your items to the rig.
